Volunteers Reduce Suckermouth Fish Population to Protect Urban River Ecosystem

Volunteers recently participated in an effort to protect the aquatic ecosystem in our urban rivers, reducing the population of suckermouth fish or ‘ikan bandaraya’ in a 6-hour netting exercise. Fish hunter Heidi Shafiq Haidzir said five hundred suckermouth fish and one shark catfish or ‘patin’ were captured during the activity.

By reducing the population of the invasive suckermouth, we can protect other native freshwater species and the aquatic environment in our rivers from disruption.

Let’s work together to keep our river ecosystem healthy and sustainable for the future by removing all destructive species that can cause harm.
